Apl.de.Ap to Receive Presidential Award

( Press Release, November 27th, 2012): The road less traveled is the road taken by one of America’s most beloved music superstars as a member of the musical sensation known as The Black Eyed Peas; a group Apl.de.Ap co-founded with best friend Will.i.am in 1995.

Now he will be honored with yet another prestigious award, when on December 5th Philippine President Benigno S. Aquino III presents Apl.de.ap the 2012 distinguished Phillipine Presidential Award. Apl.de.Ap, was born Allan Pineda to a single mother in the Philippines. He has amassed six Grammy’s awards, American Music Awards, Billboard Awards, MTV Music and Video Awards, along with countless other accolades.

Born in the Philippines and abandoned by his American father Apl.de.ap was raised in a small village in the most impoverished environment, until the age of 13 when he was brought to the United States. He loves two things more than he loves music: His native country, and the country he now calls home-America.

While becoming a global music sensation with the band Black Eyed Peas, Apl has also become known for what he does off stage as much as for what he does on stage: building classrooms in his native country that will create a future for the children of the Philippines.

His vision led to the creation of the Apl.de.Ap Foundation and the We Can Be Anything Campaign. “We Can Be Anything” is not just a slogan for Apl. It’s an expression of his deeply-held belief in the power of education, and his gratitude for the education he received. Drawing from his own life experience, the foundation and the campaign are committed to improving the quality of life for children in the Philippines through education, technology, and music.

It is this incredible dedication to those he never forgot while on his journey to the top of music charts that has now gained him the most prestigious award the Philippino government can bestow on anyone that plays a significant role in national development.

The President of the Republic of the Philippines, Benigno Simeon Aquino III, believes passionately in building a nation of justice, peace, and inclusive progress. It is because of Apl’s commitment to justice, peace, and progress for the children of the Philippines that he is an exemplary candidate and recipient of this award. The 2012 Philippine Presidential Award ceremony will take place on December 5, 2012 at the Philippine White House.
